The Fairfield County Arts Council sponsors various programs including art/drawing lessons for school age children. They have co-sponsored with the Town of Winnsboro, monthly “First Friday” events, providing musical entertainment and displays of art by local school children. They also have a tent at Rock Around the Clock Festival providing children the opportunity to paint a picture for free.

Annually, they recognize a supporter of arts in the community at their annual meeting in April. They meet on the second Tuesday of each month at the Fairfield County Council on Aging offices, 200 E Washington St. Winnsboro. Annual membership dues are $10 for an individual, $25 for corporate.

Arts on the Ridge

First Saturday in May. Annual event on the grounds of Century House in Ridgeway, with art works also displayed in local restaurants and shops for the weekend of the event. Open to artists from Fairfield County, and surrounding counties. Display of visual arts, including painting in several mediums, quilting, pottery, jewelry, photography, graphic arts, hand crafts, glass, live musical entertainment, storytelling, meet the Authors Book Signings. Pine Tree Playhouse

Pine Tree is a small community theater presenting 3-4 plays/productions a year at the playhouse. Pine Tree was established in 1985. It promotes theater arts in the community, reaching out to school children and adults through participation in dramatic and musical performances, talent shows and participation in local festivals. Members also participate in the Winnsboro Woman’s Club’s annual Ghost & Lantern Tour by portraying local historical characters.

Past performances include “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” “Steele Magnolias”, “Annie”, “Oliver” “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”, “The Homecoming”, as well as original productions of “Live From Las Vegas”, Live From Nashville”, “Vampire Story”, and “Fairfield Got Funny”.

The board of directors meets monthly on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at Songbird Manor B & B, 116 North Zion St, Winnsboro. Anyone participating in a production is considered a working member. There are no dues.

Anyone who is interested in auditioning for a part is invited to attend. Notices appear in local newspapers and on the theater marquee.

The Winnsboro Choral Society
The choral society performs Handel’s “Messiah” at the Bethel Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church 101 N Zion St, Winnsboro, every other year on the first Sunday in Advent. The performance in free to the pubic and is standing room only.

There are several artists who reside in Fairfield County and exhibit their work on a limited basis. These include Linda Dye, Kitty Rabb (watercolors)

A private club hosts well know musical entertainment on most Saturday nights throughout the year. Entertainers include Fran Doyle, Irish folk singer, Michael Hearne, Mac Arnold & A Plate Full O’Blues, and Drink Small. They also host local talent including Susan & Cary Taylor, Shadowbox band, jam sessions and open microphone night.

The Fairfield County Historical Museum hosts its annual Christmas Candlelight Open House in December. Part of the festivities includes performances by local children and adults, musical groups and choirs.

Private lessons for guitar, piano and other musical instruments are available. Some of the public schools offer lessons for musical instruments.

Fairfield County Schools host annually, “Artworks”, a musical performance by students from all ages. The early summer program involves two weeks of intensive study and practice culminating in a performance open to the public.
