Fairfield County Chamber of Commerce
Our Chamber was chartered in March 1945 by businessmen who realized the need for an organization to aid development as our young soldiers returned from foreign shores. Our Chamber continues to work with enthusiasm “To promote the economic development of Fairfield County to better serve the needs of our community, its citizens and businesses.”
Fairfield County is located only 26 miles north of downtown Columbia, capital city of South Carolina and 75 miles south of downtown Charlotte; 2 hours east to the coast and 2 hours west to the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Rich in history our county name is believed to have originated with Lord Cornwallis, when in 1780-1781 during the Revolutionary War, he and his British Troops wintered in Winnsboro. While taking in the view of the surrounding area from his second floor window, Cornwallis declared “Oh, What Fair Fields, . . ” thus Fairfield County.
Water abounds in Fairfield, with the Broad River and Lake Monticello on our western border, Lake Wateree on our eastern border, we are an aquatic paradise.
